SAWTST serves as a Prime with IBM, AWS and Softlayer to support the Department of the Army, Assistant Secretary for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology, Program Executive Office, Enterprise Information Systems (PEO-EIS), and Product Direct - Enterprise Computing (PD EC) providing cloud computing to Army applications, including data storage requirements and transaction volume. As the Army consolidates data centers and transfers applications to the commercial cloud, SAWTST assists providing a cloud computing solution that aligns to the following “Essential Characteristics” as defined in the Draft National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Working Definition

  • On-demand Self Service –Provide the capability for the ordering activity to unilaterally.

  • Broad Network Access –Support Internet bandwidth

  • Resource Pooling –Support provisioning of storage, computing capacity, and memory regardless of the physical location of the facilities

  • Rapid Elasticity –Support service provisioning and de-provisioning times (scale up/down), making the service available within near real-time

  • Measured Service - Offer visibility into service usage via dashboard or similar electronic means

  • Information Technology (IT) infrastructure security
